Ultrasound Leak Detection

Hefner plumbing company uses the most advanced leak detection equipment that can be purchased today. Our leak detection equipment is used on every military ship in the armed forces. We locate leaks under slabs inside residential homes and locate leaks on vacuum systems and Windows. We do not locate leaks in pools or spas.

Basically how it works if you have a leak under your slab our technicians will come in to your home and use ultrasound to detect the leak using frequencies that the human ear cannot hear. The closer we get to the frequency that we capture on the equipment the closer we are to the leak, this frequency is registered on a decibel scale and we can actually tell how far down the leak is and how far away we are from the leak. We can also measure density such as poured concrete surrounding the pipe that's leaking in a solid poured wall or fotting. Our ultrasound leak detection equipment can also tell us how many gallons per minute you are using.

99% of all plumbing companies did not carry leak detection equipment and if they do is generally very unreliable because of the cost. Ultrasound leak detection equipment is very sophisticated and very expensive but it saves an enormous amount of time and expense to the customer.

Definition of a Slab Leak

A slab leak is defined as a leak on a copper or galvanize or CPV waterline underneath a homes concrete slab. Typically these pipes are not embedded in the concrete but are anywhere from 10 to 18 inches below the concrete slab. A slab leak occurs when the pipe failes to hold pressure because of a pen hole leak in the wall of the pipe or fitting.

In the majority of cases throughout the southern United States you will find that copper is mostly used under the slab which would be L type soft copper. Because the fact that copper pipe oxygenates especially with rounding soil on the outside of the pipe keeping the pipe damp, corrosion will exist inside the pipe and on the outside of the pipe.

Industrial blight in my opinion is the root cause of copper pipe failures under the slab. Some estimates that have been taken say that 66% of all homes in the southern regions of the United States that have copper will fail under the slab.

Note: Hefner plumbing Co. Will never breaks up your concrete floors to repair a slab leak. Breaking through a customer's concrete floor inside the house is a uneducated way to make a repair. And this practice is used by 98% of all plumbing contractors the reason why they do this is they don't want to educate themselves on better practices and don't do enough of this kind of work.

Breaking through a customer's floor is very destructive to the home, breaking termite barriers, wood floors, tile floors and elect can be very costly for a customers home and very unnecessary if you know what you're doing.

Hefner plumbing Co. has performed thousands of leak detections and the re-piping of homes over the past 35 years and this company has studied extensively the ergonomics of slab leaks.
